air gun review : Logun Gladi8r and the Logun Domin8r
by Matt Sasso
I set out to review these guns separately however, they are so closely linked in similarity that it made sense to share my experiences with them in the same review and outline a few of the distinct differences.

Gladi8r

Domin8r
Summary
Both guns are a prime example of Logun’s determined craftsmanship. However,
the guns were designed in a joint effort with Sweden’s premier airgun manufacturer FX. There is excellent matching of the synthetic stocks to the working metal parts. The guns engineering is based on an approach of simplicity. An eight shot rotary magazine loads quickly into a sleek looking, low fitting breech and is held firmly by a breech pin that is accessible under even the largest scopes. On a special note, Logun has done a fine job of developing the rotary magazine so that the pellets will not drop out of it. The outside radius of the magazine is chamfered through to each individual cell and fitted with a rubber o-ring that holds most pellets snugly in place. This is a fantastic bonus to any of the hunters out there. During my field tests I kept one magazine in the gun and one bouncing around in my front pocket and I never experienced any of the pellets coming loose.

The Domin8r and the Gladi8r are both fitted with free floating shrouded Lothar Walther Match Barrels that sit nicely over a large front air reservoir. The shrouded barrel performs as a sound eliminator and none of the shots coming from either gun are audible other than a short distance away. The front air reservoirs are interchangeable with several different sizes made by FX. A shooter could also purchase an extra one for a quick swap in the field rather than re-charging the rifle. The on board air reservoir is accompanied by a very accurate pressure gauge on the underside of the gun.

These guns offer 3 power settings at the flick of a finger. The velocity results are posted below but I found that the medium setting would send a 14.3 grain pellet on a very flat, accurate trajectory for 50yds.
The trigger is a 2 stage adjustable. It was set very light out of the box without a lot of travel and the squeeze seemed to happen very naturally with either gun
.

Finally, the most astounding feature shared by these guns is the biathlon cocking system. I like to call it the “Click and flick”. Line up your shot, “Click” the trigger, “Flick” the lever and you are loaded and ready for your next shot. All done without having to lower the rifle or lose site of your target.
I have watched a hunting buddy of mine do this several times in the field. Each time his shots were accurate and precise. It reminds me of shooting a triple with a pump shotgun
Now for the important questions. How many shots per fill and what kind of accuracy can you expect.
Shots per fill ( Based on drop of POI at 30yds)
Low power =100 @15 ftlbs
Medium = 30+ @ 23 ftlbs
High = 24+ @ 35 ftlbs

A simple translation is that this gun carries a very nice shot to fill ratio for its size. On a medium setting it will carry a 14.3 grain pellet out absolutely flat to 50yds. If you are a hunter that is fantastic for 99.9% of the situations you will encounter and you can trade economy and efficiency for insane power. However, you always have the option to click the power setting in either direction for lower or higher power. I found sighting the gun in at the medium power setting made the most sense because I would probably use it more than the other settings and 33 ftlbs is more than enough for most small game or target ranges. You also have the option of carrying a separate are reservoir and swapping them in the field if you need to. 30 shots at 23 ftlbs is a lot for any small game hunting adventure and once we discuss accuracy you will see why.
AccuracyThe Domin8r is one of the most accurate air rifles I have had the pleasure of shooting. I will be posting some targets here in the near future but this has been my experience so far. At 30 yds the pellet will drop into the same hole shot after shot. At 50 yds you can expect clover leafs. I easily shot sub 1” groups from a free standing position at 50yds. I fully plan on doing some 100yd testing and posting it on this article.
It shot a variety of pellets very well although the Crosman premiere and Beeman Kodiak seemed to outdistance the rest of the pack.
Incidentally, I chose to top the Domin8r with a Leapers 3x12x44 compact, illuminated recticle scope. While this gun could handle a larger scope I thought it made sense to maintain the slick feel of the gun as well as maintain a weight of less than 7lbs.

Recommendation The Domin8r’s light durable frame, incredible accuracy, Multi-shot capacity and almost silent report make it one of the sweetest airgun hunting rifles I have used to date. The Domin8r is truly a precision instrument and testament to thoughtful engineering that any sportsman would enjoy. |

The Gladi8r holds the same accuracy as the domin8r but it holds a bit steadier because of the added weight. As a bench gun the Gladi8tr will send them way out there and very accurately. I had this in mind when I was choosing a scope for it. I went with a Leapers 4x16x50 scope, illuminated recticle, mildot scope.

Typically, I like to squirrel hunt by walking a bit and stopping to look around or listen for cutting sounds. However, with the Gladi8r I decide to go to a spot I knew held squirrels and then just setup with a good vantage point of the whole area. I kept the gun on medium power shooting Crosman premiers. The gun is just a very nice combination of quiet and swift on medium power. In about a ½ hour I began to see squirrels at different ranges out to about 70yds. I focused on one about 50yds out as he was headed up the main beam of a tree and was not obscured by the canopy of leaves. He came to a stop and looking through theLeapers scope at 16X magnification, I could count the hairs on his head and I leveled off and fired. He dropped to the forest floor and laid still. The other squirrels reacted for 20 seconds or so and went back about their business. The gun is so quiet and accurate and requires almost no movement to reload. The squirrels saw no cause for alarm. I took 2 squirrels this way and decided to leave some for another day. I can’t wait to try this technique with the Gladi8r in the winter woods.

Velocity I tested the Gladi8r with 14.3 grain Crosman premiers and 21 grain Beeman Kodiaks 21.1 grain Shots per fill (based on drop in POI at 30 yds) High = 60 Medium = 100 Low = over 150 (I got tired of counting)
